Child Neuropsychologist in Lakeland, FL
Testing and evaluations to help you discover the real “why.” Services available for children and teens. ADHD, autism, learning differences, & more.
Something just isn’t adding up.
Some families come to us after months (or years) of school struggles, watching their child fall behind despite working twice as hard. Many are trying to understand the big emotions, outbursts, or social challenges that seem so out of sync with their child’s age or intelligence.
Then there’s the question of whether it’s actually ADHD, autism, or something else entirely. Or you may just feel stuck—caught between a child who’s clearly trying and a world that doesn’t seem to understand them.
You’re here because you need the right kind of help. Today.
Neuropsychological testing and evaluation are designed for…
- Kids who are falling behind academically or barely scraping by despite tons of effort.
- Children with frequent behavior struggles or emotional outbursts.
- Suspected ADHD, autism, sensory processing challenges, or learning differences.
- Kids who are high-achieving, possibly gifted, but struggling socially or emotionally.
- Children who are misunderstood or mislabeled as "problem kids.”
- Families needing support for IEPs, homeschooling, or school placement decisions.
The Process
Intake & Parent Interview
We’ll start our work together by learning how you see your child. You’ll complete an intake form and meet with us to talk through your concerns, observations, and goals.
Planning the Assessment
To ensure a personalized and tailored evaluation of your child’s needs, we’ll need to dive a bit deeper. This next step includes:
- Direct one-on-one testing (typically over multiple sessions)
- Observations at school or daycare
- Input from teachers, therapists, or other key adults
- Parent and teacher rating scales
The Testing Sessions
We specialize in school neuropsychology and play-based assessment. Depending on what’s needed, this could involve:
- A single IQ test (e.g. for gifted placement)
- Learning disability testing (reading, writing, math)
- Autism/ADHD evaluations (the most comprehensive)
Testing typically takes 6–8 hours and is broken into developmentally appropriate sessions. Younger children require less time, while teens may need more. We recognize this can be a lot to take in for you and your child, so we make sure they feel comfortable and safe throughout the entire process.
The Results & Report
Within 30 days, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report. We’ll schedule a detailed interpretation session to walk through everything together. Everything we provide to you will be delivered in clear, easy-to-understand language, and we’ll answer any questions you may have.
Recommendations & Support
You’ll leave with a plan: practical, personalized, and designed to help your child thrive. But more than that, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of your next steps. Our evaluations are designed to help you move forward with something solid to work from—instead of guessing what your child needs, you’ll know what to do next.
Why test and evaluate?
Because you need honest, real answers. A comprehensive evaluation offers more than a diagnosis; it gives you a clear and compassionate “why” behind the behaviors, struggles, or differences you’ve been trying to make sense of.
This process leads to:
- Effective strategies for learning, behavior, and emotional support
- Validation for both child and parent
- Stronger collaboration with schools and other providers
- Early intervention that actually fits your child
- Less stress, more understanding, and better outcomes long-term
A clearer picture, a better plan, and a new path forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs an evaluation?
If your child is struggling with behavior, learning, emotions, or social skills and you feel like you’re not getting the answers or support you need, it may be time. Many parents come to us with a sense that something isn’t quite right or that their child isn’t being fully understood at school or at home. You don’t need to have things figured out yet—that’s exactly why we’re here. You can learn more about our approach to working with children and teens HERE.
What’s the difference between this testing and testing through the school district?
School-based testing tends to be limited in scope and may only assess areas tied to academic eligibility for services. Our evaluations are more comprehensive, more personalized, and go deeper into cognitive, emotional, and developmental functioning. We also include thorough recommendations that can be used at school, at home, or in other care settings.
Do you diagnose ADHD or autism?
Yes. We provide comprehensive evaluations that include diagnostic clarity for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, giftedness, and more. If your child meets the criteria for a diagnosis, we’ll explain what that really means going forward and what you can do on your end to support them.
Will my child be uncomfortable or nervous during testing?
We do everything we can to make the experience comfortable, safe, and welcoming. The testing will always be developmentally appropriate with a warm, flexible, person-centered and play-based approach—especially for younger kids.
What age range do you evaluate?
We work with children as young as 2 years old all the way through adolescence and young adulthood, depending on the referral concerns. If you’re unsure if your child’s age is appropriate for testing, reach out here—we’re happy to talk it through.
